Arena decision delayed again

The decision about where the Bristol arena will be located has been delayed again. At a scrutiny meeting last week, Buckingham Group, contractors for the Temple Quay site, challenged the figures published in the ‘value for money’ report and said the project would come in at or below the original £122m figure. The operators, Arena Island Ltd, also said it had put forward an updated offer to the council in December which included a small up-front capital contribution, an extension of the lease by ten years and an increase in annual rent.

Mayor Marvin Rees said: “On the basis of these potential offers and on the assumption that the evidence given by Buckingham and Arena Island is sound, I have to pause the cabinet process until those offers have been formally tabled and fully considered.”
