Do you need a low-cost computer? You could get connected for as little as £50
Did you know that over 400 reconditioned computers and laptops are available to be bought through local project, Bristol Computer Reuse, in partnership with Byteback IT Solutions and Bristol City Council.
If you are not connected we want to help you get your first computer. Bristol Computer Reuse is a citywide project and we work with stocks of computers that are no longer required by the council and other local businesses. We refurbish the machines and ensure they are ready to be used by new owners. The scheme is supported by Bristol City Council and through it you can apply for a computer from as little as £50.
Since starting in 2008, the project has managed to find 2,500 new homes for old machines no longer needed by the council, local businesses or other organisations.
You can apply for a low-cost PC or laptop if you meet any one of the following criteria:
– You are on a low income
– You are over 65
– You have a disability
– You have a child that receives school meals
– You have a child that needs access to a computer for educational purposes
– You are in receipt of means tested benefits
– You are a full-time carer
You will receive a computer or laptop ready to go (you will just need to plug it in!), a six-month hardware warranty and telephone support.
Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol said, ‘Bristol Computer Reuse is providing a lifeline to many households in Bristol, whilst also having the added benefit of reusing equipment which is good for the environment. A refurbished laptop or computer can meet many of the same needs as a new version, but at a fraction of the cost. If you have been thinking about investing in some new kit on a budget, take a look at the Bristol Computer Reuse Project’.
