The European Parliamentary Election will take place on Thursday 23 May 2019.
EU citizens in the UK can vote – here we explain what you do need to do NOW to vote in the UK:
Step 1: Register to vote by May 7th:
Step 2: Download and fill in the European Parliament voter registration form (pdf):
Step 3: Send the form to your local Electoral Registration Office by 7 May (see details for Bristol below).
! IMPORTANT: If you are an EU citizen in the UK, even if you are already on the Electoral Register you still MUST follow step 2 & 3. Otherwise you WILL be turned away on election day!
Bristol is part of the South West Region for this election and the South West will elect 6 Members of the European Parliament (MEP).
This election uses a proportional representation voting method. You have one vote to elect all of the MEPs for the South West Region.
Each party will put forward a list of candidates (known as a regional list). You vote for one of these lists or for an individual candidate standing as an independent.
The MEPs for each party that are elected to represent the South West depends on the overall share of votes that each party receives.
Who can vote in the European Parliament Election
All electors are eligible to vote in this election. Poll cards will be sent out at the end of April .
Citizens of EU countries
If you’re a citizen of an EU member country you must complete and return an EU citizen European Parliament voter registration form to tell us you want to vote in Bristol.
You must send the form to us by midnight Tuesday 7 May 2019.

Register to vote deadlines
The deadline to register to vote in this election is midnight Tuesday 7 May 2019.
If you’re not registered to vote you can register online at on the GOV.UK website
You’ll need your:
- National Insurance number
- passport if you’re a British citizen living abroad, and want to vote in England, Scotland or Wales
Deadline for postal votes
The deadline to apply for a new postal vote or change an existing postal votefor this election is 5pm Wednesday 8 May 2019.
Deadline for proxy votes
The deadline to apply for a new proxy vote for this election is 5pm Wednesday 15 May 2019.
You must vote at the polling station listed on your poll card.
The Regional Returning Officer for the South West Region is BCP Council (Bournemouth, Christchurch and Pool Council).
