Bristol Arena
What was it?
Plans had been proposed for a 10,500 seat entertainment arena, possibly a casino, residential development and some other amenities on a site adjacent to Temple Meads Station. The plan was backed by Bristol City Council and SWRDA, who had invested heavily to prepare the site for development. According to a release from SWERDA reported in news items on the BBC and in the Evening Post, those plans have now been scrapped.
What happens now?
The site is undergoing more remedial work by SWERDA to make it ready for development (early part of 2008). Presumably new plans will now be drawn up to develop houses, shops and offices on it. TRESA will keep a keen eye on what develops to ensure that it adds to the area rather than detracting and will involve local residents in any campaigns it feels need to be made in that regard.
