Plastic bags
TRESA has launched a campaign encouraging residents to buy re-usable cotton bags for their shopping. Over 100 billion plastic bags are currently littering the world and clogging up our seas. The Marine Conservation Society recently found more than 90% of the 30,000 gannets' nests on Grassholme Island in the Bristol Channel contained plastic material.
We’ve decided it’s time Totterdown took a stand on plastic bags and TRESA have teamed up with CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity based in Bristol, to launch a re-usable cotton shopping bag. The pink and cream polka-dot shopping bags are made from 100% biodegradable cotton. By using the bag you’re not only helping to reduce the environmental hazard of plastic bags but you’re helping to make a difference to the lives of local families affected by childhood cancer and leukaemia.
CLIC Sargent helps families in many ways - from providing specialists in local hospitals, to giving grants to ease the financial burden that having a child with cancer brings. The organisation also runs a ‘Home from Home’ in Bristol offering families a place to stay, free of charge, while their child is being treated at the nearby hospital.
Look out for the bags on sale in the Banana Boat, Fig1 and Jack & Jill (price £3, all proceeds go to CLIC Sargent). They are also available through the CLIC Sargent on-line shop and in all CLIC Sargent shops.
