School Road Park

The park on School Road has been gradually declining for years. A group of concerned residents grouped together to look at what could be done about it and has joined with TRESA to make an application to 'The People's Millions' Lottery Fund. The great news is that we've won £80,000 to improve the park.

A big thank you to everyone who voted for the project and especially to Alice and her team who made it all happen.

Most of the funding will go on play equipment for children (the children in Hillcrest School are helping to design it), but there is a hefty chunk to spend on improving the boundary fence, the landscape and planting. See the project plan (pdf 95KB) or the press release (pdf 32KB) for more details.

In addition to the lottery funds, there is also the chance of some council funding. Given the proximity of the development of the Texaco Garage on Wells Road, TRESA has been lobbying the City Council to allocate the associated section 106 money to the park. The response from the Council has been very positive and they've said that they would be happy to help out. The amount will depend on what priorities in the other local parks (they have to be within 1 mile of the development site).
