Work on the Temple Gate scheme started on 26 June 2017 and is due to finish by Autumn 2018. As of next week, we will have completed the construction of the Bath Bridge traffic island, and will be carrying out drainage work on Victoria Street and Temple Street. The construction of the new road is still ongoing and various changes to bus services around the area remain in place. Work is also underway to create a new footpath outside Fowlers in Bath Road.
Drainage work underway on the Friary
New and updated restrictions and changes to access:
NEW: The footway by Fowler’s on the Bath Bridge junction is now closed until the new year. Pedestrian diversions are signposted on site. Some lane closures and pedestrian crossing closures will be needed around the Bath Bridge junction during this time; where this is the case, they will be clearly signposted on site.
NEW: The central reservation on Temple Gate, between the Pelican crossing outside Engine Shed and the old George and Railway building, will be closed between 4 and 8 December so that BT can dig a trial hole.
UPDATED: Due to unforeseen issues with underground services, work on the southbound bus stop (Tg) on Temple Gate, located between Station Approach and Cattle Market Road, will take longer than initially forecast. The bus stop will now re-open by March 2018. The same changes to services remain in place, and the nearest bus stops for the affected services are shown on the map below. Please note that the 904 Brislington Park and Ride service will no longer stop outside Engine Shed (Te). Cattle Market Road will also remain closed during this time.
UPDATED: Due to necessary design changes, Temple Street will remain closed until early in the new year. Access to the 100 Temple Street car park will be maintained via Canynge Street, and pedestrian and step-free access to the building will be maintained as usual. The parking bays on Victoria Street remain suspended.
UPDATED: The Friary, from its junction with the roundabout to the turning into the Temple Quay car park, will now remain closed for the duration of the works programme. This will allow deep drainage works to be carried out and heat networks infrastructure to be installed. Access to the Temple Quay car park shall be maintained via Temple Back East. Please note that there will be no impact to the existing access to the Temple Meads Station car park, which is via the Temple Meads approach ramp, and exit from the same will be maintained via the Friary.
Ongoing restrictions and changes to access:
From 23 October for four months, the footpath around the edge of the Temple Circus gyratory (where the Friary meets Temple Gate) will be closed to enable carriageway widening works. Pedestrians will be diverted around the site.
Pedestrian diversions around the Brunel Mile, with some crossing facilities relocated. These are signposted on site.
Lane narrowing on Temple Way and Victoria Street narrowed to one lane when approaching and exiting the gyratory;
No vehicular access to the land between the Grosvenor Hotel and George & Railway buildings;
Closure of all cycle lanes through the area due to the reduced road space available during the works;
Closure of the south side of the Temple Circus roundabout to simplify traffic movements during the works. Traffic from the north will no longer be able to turn right into Victoria St from Temple Way and traffic exiting from the Friary will no longer be able to turn right onto Temple Way or straight on to Victoria Street.
Changes to lane restrictions on the roundabout (as far as possible two lanes of traffic will continue to run during peak hours).
