On Saturday 22nd April, we held a work party at the Orchard and Community Space to play a small part in Earth Day. We had a small group of seven people and managed to make a great impact.

We managed to achieve our target of cutting back the weeds along the embankment behind the community space which adjoins the orchard. This extends the orchard behind the community space and connects the two areas together more neatly.

Four fruit trees had recently been planted on the embankment but were in danger of being smothered by nettles, bindweed, and himalayan balsam. All of which have been taking over the site. We have an ambition to remove all the invasive balsam so will need future sessions to keep up the work.

It was also International Tea Day as well so we ensure everyone stopped for a well earned cuppa and a slice of Rhubarb flapjack. We don’t have any more work parties schie
