Talk of Totterdown Issue 47 – Winter 2017
Misty, mysterious, foggy November mornings, surprisingly vibrant sunsets, and the faint smell of bonfires in the air herald the start of Winter and the promise of festive fun on the horizon.
In this latest issue we look ahead to the annual celebration of all things arty that make up the wonderful and unique experience that is Totterdown Art Trail. This year FRONT ROOM takes as its theme ‘Fairytales, Myths and Legends’ – over the weekend of 18 & 19 November expect plenty of magical happenings, mythical creatures as well as a wonderfully eclectic mix of art in all its forms. Performance, music, fine art, crafts, hand thrown pots, exquisite handmade jewellery and objets d’art to name but a few. There is plenty of art to see and workshops to enjoy. The maps will be available soon detailing what is happening when and where and you can also check out FRONT ROOM on Facebook and the website www.frontroom.org.uk for more details. I am looking forward to checking out Julian Quaye’s amazing anthropomorphic creations on display at The Shakey, and spending some time chilling in the wonderland world of Floriography and the Healing Courtyard, followed by a lovely warming mug of mulled cider up at Totterdown Press before enjoying some foot tapping tunes in The Oxford.
Our very own media darling, Dan Flew, has also been bitten by the art bug. Much in demand by the BBC, both Radio and TV, Dan has somehow also found time to take up art classes. Inspired by his love and knowledge of nature, could this be another string to add to his very talented bow.
As if that weren’t enough of the artistic vibe in Totters we also take a look at a project being proposed by Little Epic Theatre. A fundraising campaign has been launched to help them bring “The Art of Getting Unlucky” to the stage. Help back the project by purchasing a truly ‘unique’ gift for that second cousin once removed or the dreaded in-law you have to greet with a smile through gritted teeth…
And talking of Christmas, find out a little more about our regular contributors who have revealed what they would want to find in their stocking on Christmas morning.
