The draft “Sport and Active Recreation Facility Strategy for Bristol 2017-2022” (see below) suggests Jubilee Pool in Knowle is under threat despite the recent campaign to save the pool. The document states:
“It is proposed that:
The City develops new/enhanced pool provision in East/Central Bristol either:
• On the site of and as part of a redeveloped Easton Leisure Centre or;
• another identified location
The feasibility of this should be assessed in tandem with the evaluation of the potential development of multi-court sports halls. This should also be assessed in tandem with the need to progress other broader swimming pool related objectives including determining whether Jubilee Pool should:
• Be closed (and a date, linked to the above, determined for this).
• Be the subject of a feasibility study to ascertain whether self-management by some form of consortium of clubs is a viable, sustainable option.”
“Priority should be given to providing the additional provision that is required in the east of the city. This will also allow the needs of the projected population growth to be met. Enhancing the Easton Pool should also be considered as financial resources allow. Enhancements to disabled access to pools on school sites should also be prioritised. No further investment should be made in enhancing the older pools sites – e.g. Jubilee – that are nearing the end of their lifespan.”
