Thank you for taking the time to read our tenth update on the Temple Gate roadworks. We send one of these updates every month, providing the latest information about changes to the road network and some general information about the scheme. Please feel free to pass this update on to all interested parties.
Construction updates
Work on the Temple Gate scheme started on 26 June 2017 and is due to finish by Autumn 2018. This week, drainage work will be completed on Victoria Street and Temple Street. Work on the Temple Gate bus stop is progressing and the bus stop is due to re-open on 29 March.
New and updated restrictions and changes to access:
NEW: From 26 March 2018, Redcliffe Mead Lane will be closed at its junction with Temple Gate for at least two weeks. This closure will enable the digging of trial holes for future heat networks infrastructure.
NEW: Due to Network Rail signalling upgrades, which will make way for an increase in trains from 2019, no trains will be calling at Bristol Temple Meads between Friday 30 March (Good Friday) and Tuesday 3 April (inclusive). We have been working closely with Network Rail and GWR to ensure that rail replacement bus services run smoothly through our work area. Passengers are advised to check journeys closer to the time at www.nationalrail.co.uk/easter. The below map shows affected services:
NEW: The southbound bus stops outside Engine Shed (Te and Tf) will be permanently closed from Thursday 29 March 2018. All the services that previously called at these stops, with the exception of the 904 Brislington Park and Ride, will be reallocated to the newly constructed southbound bus stop on Temple Gate (between Station Approach and Cattle Market Road), which will open on the same day. The 904 Brislington Park and Ride service will call at Redcliffe Way and will no longer stop on Temple Gate. Until 29 March, the current bus diversions from Temple Gate will remain in place.
UPDATED: Temple Street will reopen on 16 March, and the car park can now be accessed via Victoria Street and Temple Street. The turning circle has not re-opened, and the parking bays on Victoria Street are still suspended. From this date, the inbound lane on Victoria Street will also reopen, with Victoria Street running under contraflow.
UPDATED: Cattle Market Road will remain closed until May 2018. The extension of its closure is a result of demolition work at the Former Sorting Office site, and will enable the demolition of the Cattle Market Tavern.
Ongoing restrictions and changes to access:
There is single lane running eastbound from York Road onto the Bath Bridge roundabout. This will be in place until w/c 16 April. Various other works unrelated to the Temple Gate project are taking place on York Road at the same time (pedestrian / cycle crossing improvements, drainage and utilities), the details of which can be found on roadworks.org.
The Friary, from its junction with the roundabout to the turning into the Temple Quay car park, will remain closed for the duration of the works programme. This will allow deep drainage works to be carried out and heat networks to be installed. Access to the Temple Quay car park shall be maintained via Temple Back East. Please note that there will be no impact to the existing access to the Temple Meads Station car park, which is via the Temple Meads approach ramp, and exit from the same will be maintained via the Friary.
Pedestrian diversions around the works site, with some crossing facilities relocated. These are signposted on site.
Lane narrowing on Temple Way and Victoria Street narrowed to one lane when approaching and exiting the gyratory;
No vehicular access to the land between the Grosvenor Hotel and George & Railway buildings;
Closure of all cycle lanes through the area due to the reduced road space available during the works;
Closure of the south side of the Temple Circus roundabout to simplify traffic movements during the works. Traffic from the north will no longer be able to turn right into Victoria St from Temple Way and traffic exiting from the Friary will no longer be able to turn right onto Temple Way or straight on to Victoria Street.
Changes to lane restrictions on the roundabout (as far as possible two lanes of traffic will continue to run during peak hours).
