Information from Bristol Parks Forum and Andrew Brown, Chair of VPAG

Dear Friend of Victoria Park,

The following is an extract from a Bristol Parks Forum email, reiterating the current guidance with respect to the use of parks during restrictions designed to limit the spread of Corona Virus/COVID-19:

Stay at home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.

Bristol’s parks (not play areas or any facilities) are open for your once a day exercise. Please observe the 2m ‘Social Distancing’ advice.

This is the latest advice on Parks & Green Spaces

You should only leave the house for 1 of 4 reasons:

  • shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
  • one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household
  • any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
  • travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home

The only reason anyone should be in a park or green space is for exercise or for walking / cycling to get to one of the above.

All playgrounds and outdoor gyms are closed.

Latest Government guidance on use of green spaces:

  • stay local and use open spaces near to your home where possible – do not travel unnecessarily
  • you should only go outside alone or with members of your own household
  • keep at least 2 metres apart from anyone outside your household at all times
  • gatherings of more than two in parks or other public spaces have been banned and the police will enforce this
  • if you have a garden, make use of the space for exercise and fresh air
  • take hygiene precautions when you are outside, and wash your hands as soon as you are back indoors

There is also some good advice on the use of parks in London, which is equally applicable in Bristol.

—————————-

Bristol Parks have been closing gates to play areas with cable-ties and using red & white tape on some equipment.

They have also been putting up these posters:

Some concerns have been raised in Bristol and in other parts of the country that people are not obeying the rules, ultimately this might lead the Government to close parks altogether.

Don’t forget, you can register on the CanDoBristol website to be added to the list of volunteers the city will be able to call on in the coming weeks and months.

Stay Safe,
