Vandalism at Arnos Vale Cemetery

BBC West report:

Police are investigating after Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust, on Bath Road in Bristol, was vandalised with significant damage.

The Underwood Centre, which is a space is usually used for forest schools, community events, weddings and funerals, was targeted.

Ellie Collier, CEO of Arnos Vale Cemetery said: “We are a place of love which is why this is shocking.

“It is a very difficult time for us financially: we will lose £100,000 in these three [lockdown] months and we are a small charity.”

Amongst the damage caused was a kiln that was used to make charcoal and some of the fencing around the building.

Ms Collier added: “They have gone for everything.”

Arnos Vale Cemetery wrote on the Facebook page: “Our small team are working incredibly hard to look after the site during these challenging times and we were devastated to find this damage.”

The team have appealed to anyone who might have information about the vandals to contact the police.
