As the Tree Champion for part of Windmill Hill ward, including Victoria Park, my role involves trying to get more trees planted in the area and encouraging local residents to take an interest in trees and report disease, damage or concerns about felling to myself or Bristol City Council (see links below). Tree Champions are volunteers linked to Bristol Tree Forum (https://bristoltreeforum.org) which aims to support the Council in its work with trees. The Council wants to double the tree canopy cover in the city by 2046 to improve air quality, remove CO2 and increase biodiversity and wellbeing, so there is a lot to be done!

To report a diseased or damaged tree: Report a problem with a tree – bristol.gov.uk
As you may know, Ash dieback has reached Bristol. The Council is monitoring the outbreak but is not currently removing diseased trees unless they are dangerous.
To sponsor the planting of a mature tree to replace one that has been felled on public land: TreeBristol: Sponsor or adopt a tree – bristol.gov.uk Within Victoria Park tree stumps show places where replacement trees may be awaiting a sponsor. A tree makes a great gift for a special occasion!
Small tree whips are available free via the One Tree Per Child project: One tree per child – bristol.gov.uk . You can discuss where to plant them when you apply as you need permission to plant trees on public land.
To plant trees on private land, see the Woodland Trust website (www.woodlandtrust.org.uk) for information about native trees, including those suitable for small gardens. There is also advice on planting trees and a variety to purchase online.
