The stabilisation works on York Road near the Banana Bridge (Langton Street Bridge) are due to come to an end at the beginning of September. York Road is due to reopen fully on Friday 4 September. Bristol City Council has provided an update on their website which is reproduced below.

York Road stabilisation: permanent works
In July 2024 we started emergency repairs to stabilise the river wall either side of Langton Street Bridge (Banana Bridge), which included placing 600 one-tonne bags on the river bank.
We started the long-term, permanent repairs in December 2024. These include:
- installing a retaining wall of sheet-piles at the top of the bank to stabilise York Road
- installing sheet-piles to support the river wall
- installing scour protection to prevent fast-moving water from eroding soil and sediment from around underwater structures
- rebuilding the riverbank with granular materials and top soil held in place with erosion matting
- planting trees and vegetation along the stabilised embankment
- road resurfacing works
Upcoming overnight road closures
In one of the final phases of this project, we need to close part of York Road and St Luke’s Road overnight to resurface the road.
Work will take place on York Road, just after its junction with Spring Street to just before the petrol station, and on St Luke’s Road, from where it meets York Road up to just before its junction with Mead Street.
These sections of road will be closed overnight on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 August and on Tuesday 1, Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 September between 8pm and 6am.
Overnight access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained, but drivers will need to follow the signposted diversion via York Road, Bedminster Bridges Roundabout, Clarence Road, Bath Bridges Roundabout and back onto York Road and in reverse.
York Road will reopen in the day one-way heading from Bath Bridges Roundabout towards Bedminster Bridges Roundabout. There will be no right turn from both St Luke’s Road and Spring Street onto York Road. However, there will be two-way traffic between Bath Bridges Roundabout and the petrol station on York Road.
York Road will reopen fully from 6am on Friday 4 September.
