Minutes of TRESA Director meeting held 7.30pm Tuesday 12th August 2025 at Stevens Crescent

Business Improvement District
CJ met with Simone from Bruhaha to discuss the possibility of setting up a Totterdown business improvement district (BID). TRESA would be supportive of this. Suzanne provided CJ with a copy of the Bristol City Centre BID brochure for information. It was agreed to have a further meeting with Simone, as well as include a Totterdown BID as an item at a future TRESA meeting. Action: CJ, SA
TRESA fundraiser
Adam of ArtPark would like to organise a trivia race night to raise funds for TRESA. The proposed date, 13th September, clashes with a number of other events in the area including Victoria Park Fun Day, a special meal at the Con Club, and Redcatch Beer Festival. Suzanne to ask Adam if the date for the race night could be changed. Action: SA
TRESA meetings
These to be changed to the 3rd Tuesday of the month to avoid clashing with Bristol City Council Full Council.
Moths
The moth trap is being located in gardens in and around Totterdown. This will continue throughout the summer. Anne and Simon will then compile a report. This could be supported by a moth-themed exhibition during the Totterdown Art Trail, 15th – 16th November. CJ to check if Hillcrest Primary School would be interested in hosting/organising an exhibition. Anne to ask if moth expert, Ray Barnett, would speak at the TRESA public meeting on Tuesday 18th November. Action: AS, CJ, SH
Lorries on Wells Road
Heavy lorries on Wells Road through Totterdown continue to be of concern. They may also be speeding, particularly at night. Anne to approach Cllr Ed Plowden about the possibility of linking this to Liveable Neighbourhood improvements, and whether we can ask the police to undertake speed checks. Action: AS
Totterdown Sprouting
The gardening group met this week but it is much too dry to plant in the flowerbeds at Totterdown Square at the moment. Anne is aiming to put signs in the beds to explain to the public. The next gardening group meeting will be 8th September when people will be asked to donate drought-tolerant plants. Action: AS
Anne is organising a cocktail evening for moths on 27th August at the community orchard. Action: AS
The Community Orchard has been entered into the Get Growing Trail 20th and 21st September. Richard J ones will be undertaking apple pressing on 21st September.
TRESA has nominated Anne for a free place at the Wild Summit at Bristol Beacon on 11th September.
Bees
The Crowdfunder raised over £600. A hive, equipment and 2 beekeeping suits have been purchased. Simon to be asked to check funds and whether/how they should be transferred to the TRESA account. Action: AS, SH
The bees have been moved to their new hive. Four people have expressed interest in the bee keeping course in January which costs £150 per person. It was greed that TRESA would contribute £50 per person towards the cost for TRESA members.
Anne to check British Beekeepers’ Association membership and insurance, and whether it covers public liability. Simon to be asked to check TRESA’s public liability insurance to see if beekeeping can be added if necessary. Action: AS, SH
CIL application – Totterdown urban nature reserve
Suzanne is still working on the Stage 2 application. Action: SA
Right of Way application
Suzanne, on behalf of TRESA, is applying for the pathway and steps between Bushy Park and St John’s Lane to be registered as a right of way. Action: SA
TRESA membership
Currently 119 members, 11 friends.
Directors
Charlie has resigned due to work commitments. Ideas were shared for people to approach who may be interested in becoming new directors. Action: SA
Pigeons
The nuisance of pigeons roosting and being fed in Totterdown Square is currently being discussed between TRESA, the managing agents of the shops, and local councillors. Action: SA
Talk of Totterdown
Next issue is currently being edited and will be ready for distribution in the second week of September. Action: CJ
