South Bristol Voice report:
AMAZINGLY, there were no serious injuries in this two-car collision in Wells Road, Totterdown. Motorists were advised to avoid the area for at least an hour until about 7pm on Saturday November 24.
The cause of the crash is unknown but a Mercedes was thrown onto its side in the middle of the road, its bonnet sprung open and windows smashed. The collision happened close to the junction with St John’s Lane, opposite the Patco store and Mama Bear’s nursery (formerly the Bush pub). A Fiat 500 ended up on the pavement outside the nursery but appeared much less severely damaged.
The road was closed by police in both directions from St John’s Lane to Highgrove Street. Two fire engines, several police cars and two ambulances were on the scene. Firefighters used specialist equipment – jacks and chocks – to hold the Mercedes steady on its side, presumably while the occupant was removed.
Police reported that no one involved had been significantly injured. The road was not expected to be kept closed for long. The aftermath was witnessed by dozens attending the Totterdown Arts Trail, which is open on November 24 and 25.
Apologies to anyone who heard someone shout: “You stupid bastard” in the vicinity of Knowle Road. That was the Voice remonstrating with a driver who, faced with a minor diversion around the crash scene, insisted on driving the wrong way through the one-way chicane into Wells Road, despite being asked not to do so.
