Steve Heigham of Extinction Rebellion led an interesting session at the TRESAcic public meeting on 15th May.
Extinction Rebellion is an international movement that uses non-violent civil disobedience to achieve radical change in order to minimise the risk of human extinction and ecological collapse.
Extinction Rebellion has three main demands:
- Tell the truth. Government and media outlets must tell the truth and declare a climate emergency, because that is the truth.
- Act now. The government must start on actions that aim to bring emissions down to net zero by 2025.
- Go beyond politics. The government must create and be guided by a ‘Citizens’ Assembly’ to carry out these actions, in order to break the political deadlock of conflicting interest groups that has blocked all progress on the issue for a long time.
