Full council votes in favour of Bristol’s arena on Arena Island at Temple Meads

At the extraordinary meeting of Bristol’s  Full Council tonight (3rd September 2018), the vote was in favour of a Green motion: “This Council believes that the best site for Bristol’s Arena, for the benefit of Bristol as a whole, is Temple Island in the centre of Bristol and that the decision taker should be guided by the vote at this meeting.”

The vote was 50 in favour, 8 abstentions and 0 against the motion.

Mayor Marvin Rees voted in favour of the motion. However, this does not mean the arena will go ahead on Arena Island. It has been suggested that the Mayor treated the debate, and subsequent vote, as if it was about a hypothetical question, rather than a decision about where Bristol’s arena will be located. The voting board can be seen below.
