Girls Allowed – providing ongoing physical and mental wellbeing support for women

‘Girls Allowed’ is a Women’s Only constituted group within the heart of Bristol which aims to provide ongoing physical and mental wellbeing support for women.

Set up in early 2025 the group’s aims and purposes include supporting women across Bristol no matter what challenge or difficult situation they may be facing. With no limitations, Girls Allowed aims to bring awareness and support to multiple conditions and lifestyles such as mental health disorders, domestic abuse and difficult family dynamics,  women’s health concerns, bereavement and child loss, as well as debilitating illnesses such as cancers and fibromyalgia. Believing no women should suffer in silence, should struggle or feel isolated, Girls Allowed has been created to achieve an uplifting, safe space in which women can feel comfortable, relatable and heard.

In addition to monthly coffee mornings, events this year have included quiz nights, karaoke, pamper evenings and lots more besides! Importantly there is often supportive help on hand and relevant information signposting professional services and community support groups as appropriate.

GA Drop-In Coffee mornings are held every 1st Friday of the month 9am-10:30am and on the 3rd Friday evening of the month from 7-11pm at Zion on Bishopsworth Road. This community café and events space in Bedminster Down is an ideal venue for the Women Only events – offering a really friendly and open environment where women can relax and enjoy themselves, and an empowering space to connect with other women.

Coming up is the Christmas Special on Friday 19 December 7-11pm. GA founder and Chair Kirsty Hicks says “This is our Girls Allowed – supporting women in Bristol Christmas event and we will be having lots of Christmas goodies such as goodie bags, mince pies, gingerbread, Christmas decorations and local stall holders. We hope to be joined by Miriam from Hartcliffe and Withywood Partnership talking about her work as a Domestic Abuse coordinator with some of her residents talking of their experiences with Domestic Violence – which we believe will help raise awareness and signs of DV over the Christmas period.”

“There will be Christmas music, and an evening raffle to help raise funds, as well as our annual awards presentation when our community group will be handing out awards to some of our regular event attendees and supporters of our Facebook page as a way of saying thank you and recognising their challenges and situations.”
