| High Streets Task Force: Helping to transform high streets |

| The High Streets Task Force has launched a range of cutting-edge tools, training, information and advice for high streets across England as part of the Government’s efforts to reopen safely from 15 June and support their recovery. This support is open to local councils and all organisations involved with high streets and includes free access to online training programmes, webinars, data and intelligence on topics including recovery planning and coordination, public space and place marketing. In the past, it has been so easy for people to say ‘it is the responsibility of the council to take action’. That attitude is not acceptable anymore. If you want to see your high street and town centre succeed, you need to get involved. Councils have a key ‘enabler/facilitator’ role, but we can achieve so much through local place leaders coming together and curating the area to be a ‘community district’. How can we do high streets differently? The common view seems to be emerging that local high streets will gain an increased importance relative to city centres. If the future is for more focus on ‘local high streets’, how do we ensure community groups have a central role in shaping this future?
