TRESA strongly believes that improvements to the route should support Liveable Neighbourhood principles, provide opportunities to reduce rat-running through communities served by the bus corridor, and enhance walking routes to and from the bus stops. In particular:
– The very wide side-junction at Angers Road/Bath Road should be narrowed
– Continuous footways should be provided across side junctions at Summer Hill and Angers Road
– In consultation with the local community, side junctions should provide access but be closed to through motor traffic on the Summer Hill and Angers Road rat runs
– The light-assisted pedestrian crossing points at the junction with Totterdown Bridge should give adequate pedestrian crossing time, bearing in mind that residents of the substantial new development at Totterdown Bridge (including young children) are expected to cross Bath Road to shops, parks etc in Totterdown
– Pedestrian crossings at Totterdown Bridge should be upgraded to reduce pedestrian waiting times
– Where possible single-stage crossings should be used rather than multi-stage e.g. at Totterdown Bridge where children living in the new development will be encouraged to cross Bath Road to the nearest park
– The distance between the last bus stop on Bath Road in Totterdown and the next stop at Temple Meads should be examined and shortened
– Vegetation growth frequently blocks or narrows the pavements around Totterdown Bridge and on the A4 from Three Lamps to Temple Meads. This should be ‘designed out’ where possible and, where this is not possible, the route should be subjected to a regular maintenance regime (cutting back bushes rather than the use of pesticides).
