Proposed Prohibition of Waiting: Bathwell Road, Goolden Street, Stanley Hill, Summer Hill: CAE/NMT/P-1211
TRESA supports the proposal for double yellow lines on the corners of Stanley Hill, Bathwell Road, Goolden Street and Summer Hill. However, we are aware that double yellow lines are very rarely enforced in our area. Something much more substantial is required to make the area safe.
Bathwell Road has been closed for some time while a housing development has been built at Goolden Street and Bathwell Road. Before the road closure there was a very serious problem, acknowledged by transport officers at Bristol City Council, of motor vehicles using Stanley Hill and Bathwell Road as part of a rat-run between Bath Road and Wells Road. TRESA supports the local residents in not wanting a resurgence of the problem, which could be even more dangerous now that there are homes with no front gardens on the steep and dangerous corner at Stanley Hill and Bathwell Road.
We have been working with transport officers to develop a solution to the problem, with a view to implementing ‘Liveable Neighbourhood’ measures such as a point closure.
We are also aware that Bristol City Council’s Transport Development Management report for a planning application on Bath Road [Reference 21/04096/F] includes the following: “making the junction between Bathwell Road and Wells Road one way.” TRESA presumes that will be one-way entry from Wells Road to Bathwell Road, rather than one-way exit from Bathwell Road to Wells Road which would further exacerbate the rat run. The one-way junction proposal is something we may be able to support along with other measures to address rat-running in the area, but we await further details.
