However, TRESA shares the concerns of our local independent businesses about the proposal for a 24 hour bus lane right in front of their shops. The current bus lane applies to the rush-hour only, and this enables some parking in front of the shops during their opening hours as well as opportunities to load and unload.

If the 24 hour bus lane proposal goes ahead, it will make things very difficult for several businesses. The Gents and Totterdown Canteen have already made their concerns known and a petition has been set up.
The City Council have indicated that the plans are indicative only, and further consultation on precise lengths of bus lane will follow in spring 2018, as part of a formal statutory consultation exercise. However, TRESA supports our local businesses in asking that this specific element of the proposal is withdrawn before the formal consultation. The current informal consultation dates are Monday 18 September to Friday 6 October 2017.
